The Whitman Reading and Writing Club is an after school enrichment program which usually meets Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday each week from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Club starts operation beginning in October and continues through the first week of June. A schedule will be sent home every month.

During the club a nutritious snack is provided and lots of one on one tutoring occurs. Students work independently and in small groups on reading strategies and skills. In addition, students complete written work and are encouraged to work through the entire writing process from brainstorming to publication and illustration. A certificated teacher and a variety of volunteers including fifth and sixth grade students support student learning during the program.

At the end of the program there is an end of the year celebration (June TBA) when children share their finished work with parents and friends.
