Longfellow Longfellow

A Note from the Principal

Dear Longfellow Parents:
Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year. I am excited for the upcoming year! The teachers have been preparing this summer for the return of students. We have so much to accomplish together! I appreciate how parents have contacted me to let me know their questions or concerns. As a parent and the principal, I value the relationship the school must have with parents in order for our students to be successful.

Please take the time to review our calendar. It is a great tool to communicate expectations to students. We encourage you to post this calendar in a location where you can regularly refer to it for answers to your questions. Please note the changes that we have made. Last year we worked through a process with parents, students and Longfellow staff to implement a new discipline program. Our discipline philosophy comes from Love and Logic and the belief that discipline is an opportunity to learn. During the first month of school,we will emphasize the needs for our school community to be a safe place for learning. All students will learn our school rule, “We do not interfere with the learning or safety of others.” In our common areas, students will be asked to “Take a Minute,” if they interfere with learning or safety. During this minute, students have an opportunity to fix their behavior.

We have are establishing our Parent Teacher Group as an official non-profit organization. Through a membership drive we are striving to raise the $300.00 for our application. It is just $1.00 to join and parents are always welcome to join us the second Tuesday of each month for our meetings.

Should you have any questions or concerns about any phase of school operation, please feel free to call 354- 3500 or stop by at any time. We look forward to being partners in your child’s education!

Sincerely,

Julia Lockwood
Principal
