All-School Activities

Jefferson is proud to support many special programs aimed at improving our students' school experiences.  We have homework help, a Math Is Cool Team, School Patrol, Library Assistant Group, and the Jefferson Cabinet.  Fifth and sixth graders can sign up for the band or strings instructional program. Students and their families may participate in many PTG-sponsored events such as Reading Night, Variety Show or the Fall Frolic.  Our annual Tech Trek Walkathon is a fund raiser and also a splendid family activity each May. Information about these activities and many more will come home with your student, but if you need more details please call 354-3200.

Montessori

Jefferson is the south side home of Spokane Public Schools' Montessori program, offered to district students as an alternative to the regular classroom experience.  We have five classrooms, three for grades 1-3 and two for grades 4-6.  This popular program is filled each spring by a lottery drawing from the pool of interested candidates. Click here to view Montessori Group "By-Law" information.

Special Programs

Jefferson also houses two classrooms for developmentally impaired students, and a Learning Support Center where students who qualify for services can be scheduled for intensive help with particular learning difficulties.  We have a counselor here half-time, as well as many specialists and support staff who visit our school on a regular basis.  Some of our students spend one day a week at the Tessera program for gifted students.

Reading Room

Our Reading Room offers one-to-one assistance for students who need an extra bit of help mastering reading skills.  Staffed by trained parents and community volunteers, this program provides an opportunity for students to improve their reading while at the same time developing a friendship with a mentor who can support the child's progress in many ways to ensure success in the classroom.

Project Place

In the Project Place, students have the opportunity to edit and publish their own writing, and to work on multimedia projects with video editing programs and equipment.  Creativity is encouraged in completing projects and finishing them in ways that will preserve the work for future enjoyment.  Parents, alumni and community members may arrange to use the Project Place by contacting the school offices.
