About Our School

Indian Trail History

Indian Trail Elementary School is located in the Pacific Heights subdivision of northwest Spokane. It sits on a site which was once a well-worn path for the Native American Tribes. The trail carried traffic from the southwest to Mount Spokane. As the Pacific Heights development brought families into the area, the need for a school became apparent. (First Class for 100 Years Spokane Public Schools 1889-1989)

Indian Trail Elementary opened in 1964 with Miss Margaret Tully as its first principal. The school sits on 10 acres of treed park-like grounds and adjoins Indian Trail Park with a further 3.5 acres of woodland.

Indian Trail is a small, caring community with typically two to three classrooms per grade level, including two sessions of kindergarten. We just purchased a mobile computer lab with 15 laptops provided by our Indian Trail PTA and school technology bond funds.

In addition to the rigorous and engaging instructional programs provided by our dedicated staff, our school boasts terrific sports, music and arts programs.  These specialist programs help our students develop into well-rounded young people.

The staff at Indian Trail is regularly involved in professional development and weekly collaborative sessions. These are focused around developing in-depth content knowledge and learning new teaching strategies to meet the educational and social needs of ALL Indian Trail's students.  We love kids and it shows!

Indian Trail Mission Statement

The Indian Trail staff is committed to providing ALL students with a rigorous and engaging educational program within a safe and nurturing learning environment.  Working collaboratively with our parent community, we aim to enrich the lives of ALL of Indian Trail's students.
