Nightly Reading Assignment   (back to home)

Dear Parents,

My hope is that every child will have a book on his/her reading level that will provide at least 20 minutes of reading and reflection.  After reading, please have your child write a one sentence or more "report" about what they have read that night in their composition book reading log.
Books may be exchanged daily for new ones or kept for the four nights of the week.

*Your child may read the same book each night, if they are learning from it. Report sentences, however, need to be different. The object of writing sentences is for retention/ review and also for developing complete sentences and proper handwriting skills… remember capitals and periods. (Parents may help their child with this.)  The “Book Report Sentence:” Please remember: neat handwriting, spacing of letters, and lower-case letters whenever possible.  It need not be lengthy.

Students are expected to return their Tilton's Totes for Reading bags with their reading books and composition log every day, Tuesday through Friday.  (They will not go home over the weekend.)  Each completed log entry earns a sticker on the Lunch Bunch chart.  (Please have your child explain this reward to you.)

Many thanks for your support in a program that has proven extremely effective over the years.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Cathy Tilton
