Greetings Bemiss Families:
It is my privilege to introduce myself as the new principal of Bemiss Elementary. I come to you from the North Thurston school district in Lacey, Washington, near our state capital of Olympia. I’m honored to be joining the Spokane district and look forward to leading the Bemiss community preparing our students to be successful, life–long learners. It is my goal to work collaboratively with our students, staff, families and surrounding community to make Bemiss a safe, nurturing learning environment for all students.
Our number one priority continues to be developing a quality educational experience for all of our students while providing support to our families through collaborative school activities and community programs. We have high expectations for all at Bemiss. Our students are recognized around the state as very smart and capable. Our staff is made up of very highly qualified educators and the school has been recognized as a Distinguished Title 1 School at both the state and national levels. Our families and the surrounding community are welcomed and encouraged to participate in the learning experiences of our students.
In order for our students to be successful learners, the Bemiss staff has high expectations for student behavior. It is important that our learning environment is engaging, calm and student-centered. We expect our students to be good citizens by showing respect for themselves and others. We are a school of character where the six pillars of CHARACTER COUNTS!: respect, caring, trustworthiness, fairness, responsibility and citizenship, are taught, reinforced and rewarded regularly. Our goal is to assist our students in building life-long academic and social skills critical for success in the future.
I look forward to meeting you and your child(ren) this year. I know that your experience here will be both positive and rewarding. We’re off to a great start!
