Washington Reading Corps
Washington Reading Corps (WRC) was originated by Governor Gary Locke in 1998. It was created in response to tests administered in 1997 that found only 47 percent of fourth grade students statewide met Washington State standards for reading.
This program assists young readers in improving their reading skills. At Audubon Elementary, this program helps students from first through fourth grade. These children are involved in one-on-one tutoring, as well as small group activities.
Be a Reading Buddy! Volunteer to tutor a struggling reader. Anyone willing to give one hour a week to help a child read can become a tutor. All tutors receive training and are supervised by certified staff at the schools. If interested, please call our Audubon WRC staff member, Peggy Lien at 354-2186.
